Witfield is a suburb of Boksburg which should give one some indication as to the age of the suburb. Mining was the primary source of household income. This led to the founding of the greater Boksburg, which then followed the supplementary industries in support of the mining companies. By then the commercial sector was well on its way of becoming a major contributor to the country’s economy.

This gave rise to industrial hubs and commercial hubs in the Jo’burg CBD, circling out to the broader area of the suburbs like Witfield.

In the 60’s there were mostly two property usages in Witfield consisting of freestanding homes and an almost immeasurable amount of apartment buildings. Apartments were very much the in thing in that art deco era when apartments still had parquet flooring, high ceilings and large open plan lounges and dining rooms.

The suburb has become a leafy tranquil suburb that still offers the same intrinsic familial atmosphere know in the 60’s and now caters for medium sized middle-class families, fist-time buyers and the younger generation seeking the more modern apartments and homes.

Witfield has kept up with the times and is a perfect archive of the progression in architecture of the region. This consists of the conventional, timeless to the more modern architecture which consumers are familiar with. This also means the property values keep pace with the market and in relation to the age and architecture of homes.

Today there is a fair amount of townhouse complexes which have added diversity to the suburbs property usage.

The suburb has access to well-established schools such as Witfield Laerskool, Balmoral College, Wit Deep Primary school and Goudrif High School.

Of course, there is no shortage of malls catering for retail and entertainment needs of Witfield residents at mall like East Rand Mall, Meadowdale Mall, Greenstone Shopping Centre and Village View Mall.
