Roodeplaat and Roodeplaat Dam, South East of Pretoria in Dinokeng started as an irrigation project from commercial farmers in the region. Over time it became a weekend tourist attraction due to the wildlife that was attracted to the dam. Naturally, today there are still commercial farmers in the region but the property landscape has changed drastically. The Pienaarsriver feeds into the Roodeplaat Dam which makes the river banks another natural feature that will no doubt also attract property developers as this land becomes available for residential development.
Urbanization in Gauteng has been approached on a different avenue and natural features like dams and nature reserves have become the central hub from where estates are developed and the Roodeplaat Dam is one such example.
Situated a short 30-minute drive from Pretoria has made Roodeplaat the perfect location, to begin with, urban developments and this is seen in prestigious game and lifestyle estates like Sable Hills Waterfront Estate and Alenti Estate and venues like Die Stoor Wedding Venues, Meraki Function Venue, Dinokeng Mixed-Use Development and Gabbata Guest House to mention a few elite attractions and residential estates. Pebble Rock Golf Village was the flagship development for the Roodeplaat region and once it was established there was no holding back on how the region has developed.
Of course, estates do set the trend in property values, followed by farms and then smallholdings. The pristine natural surroundings and wildlife add their own value and Roodeplaat has no shortage of wildlife.
Many residents in Roodeplaat have their children attend schools in Pretoria North, Montana Park and Sinoville with access to reputable schools. Naturally, all the retail malls and entertainment venues are also located in the suburbs north of Pretoria which means Roodeplaat is not a remote location any more.
