One would expect a town like Onrus to consist of agriculture. This is partly true. The town is also residential. Endemic fynbos paint a natural protected tapestry.
The village is a tourist haven set amongst pristine wildlife with the Onrus river and the ocean creating a type of water-locked village.
The property usage in the village consists of freehold homes, vacant land, townhouses and farms.
Properties are by no means cheap. It can be assumed the property values increased to this height from high demand for homes. This may, in turn, have influenced modern architecture, which is a prevalent feature of homes in the town. Vacant stands are naturally the most cost-effective way to own a home in such an exclusive market and will enable one to design, construct and install interior fittings to emulate your lifestyle and budget. Homes range in value from the Mid R 2,5 mil and increase to above R 9 mil mark. There are commercial properties in the town/village which is an indication again that the town is self-sustaining. The towns’ property market of construction of homes market is expanding which is an indication of investment and further growth
Many homes that are constructed higher up on the slopes of the mountain offer the most spectacular views of the surroundings and the ocean and from homes, with this vantage point, one can enjoy watching whales and dolphins at play in the season.
All the important amenities are in place to ensure that the village is a functional residential town like schools and other amenities. Schools in the town and nearby are Northcliff House College, Berghof School, Curro Hermanus Independent School and Hermanus Waldorf School. Malls in and near to the village are, Hemel en Aarde Village Shopping Mall, Whale Coast Mall and Gateway Shopping Centre.
Nearby towns are Hermanus, Sandbaai and Zwelihle which are also tourist havens.
