Northgate is a prestigious residential suburb located North West of Johannesburg, in Randburg.
One of the landmarks that the suburb is noted for is the major Northgate Retail Mall. But then it is a residential suburb with exclusive homes adorned by lush sub-tropical gardens that complement luxurious homes, apartments and townhouses. The architectural styles in the suburb tend to be more contemporary modern with a mixture of Tuscan and Cape-Dutch styled homes and apartments. Free-standing sectional-title apartments are a new trend that could spill over from Northgate into other suburbs of South Africa.
Apartments and townhouses appear to encompass the greater portion of properties up for sale in the suburb. The reason for this is simply families that have outgrown their apartments or townhouses and are upgrading to freehold homes within the suburb. This in turn attracts first-time buyers and young professionals, pensioners and young married couples.
Reasons that attract these buyers to the suburb are also the number of schools nearby namely Sharonlea Primary School, Curro Aurora Independent School, Randburg High School and Northriding High School.
The Northgate Mall is not the only upmarket retail mall in and close to the suburb. The other malls to spend time entertaining the family are Northriding Square, Northlands Corner, Cresta Shopping Centre and Northcliff Piazza. Residents also have the option of enjoying everything Monte Casino, in Fourways, has to offer as the casino is within easy access.
All the major commercial nodes are on the doorstep in nodes at Bryanston, Fourways, Randburg, Rivonia, Laser Park and Strydom Park.
Highways and major roads intersecting the suburb are Northumberland Road which becomes Christiaan De Wet Road, Beyers Naude Drive and CR Swart Drive.
Major industrial nodes close to the suburb are Laser Park, Strydom Park, Kay Sand and Lonehill.
