Krugersdorp is a town that was established in the gold rush era. Some mines are still in production but there are allied industries that have diversified from support solely for the mines. There are general engineering and specialist engineering like metal pressing, rubber and plastic injection moulding companies that contribute to household income and add further job opportunities. The effect this has had on the property industries has been a demand for more housing of various income classes.
New suburbs had to be created and income determined the status of the various suburbs.
Kenmare is a mixed-use residential suburb with a middle-upper class demographic.
The property usage consists of freehold homes, townhouse complexes and apartment complexes. Pensioners, first-time buyers and established families have a variety of properties to choose from in a broad income spectrum in all three types of property usages.
It is an established neighbourly suburb and the is a sense of pride amongst residents as can be seen in neatly maintained gardens and side-walks and the condition of homes.
The architecture of homes in the suburb is a good mixture of quaint old-world charming home through to the modern art-deco and architectural homes. The influence of the architectural styles contributes to the general property value which is showing signs of recovery. Statistics also indicate a greater demand for homes in the greater Krugersdorp.
Reasons for this are the prime location of the suburb as it is close to all the major industrial nodes in Boltonia, Chamdor, Factoria and Lewisham. Then the suburb also offers convenient access to all the major commercial hubs in Sandton, Rivonia, Bryanston and Rosebank. Schools in and near to the suburb are Laerskool Kenmare, Hoerskool Noordheuwel and Krugersdorp High School.
Malls catering for retail needs and commercial entertainment are Key West Shopping Mall, Clearwater Shopping Mall, Noordheuwel Shopping Mall and Princess Crossing.
