Jeppestown South is an old, established, mixed-use residential suburb, located in the eastern section of the greater Johannesburg CBD.
The suburb is known for the numerous apartment building complexes that were the core property usage of the suburb and then freehold homes. The culture of the suburb at its inception was middle-class and through time it had a colourful personality of bohemian, vibey clubbers night-life and art culture scene.
The architectural style of property in the suburb is a registry of both time and fashion evolution with some homes that depict the period homes and then there are more modern contemporary designs that add to the diverse nature of the suburb’s personality.
With the inner-city security initiative alongside the SAPS, the property market in the suburb has seen good interest from buyers and investors in the rental segment. Apartments are naturally favoured as rental investment properties and yield stable monthly income and property value growth. Comparing the average sales value of a freehold home to the average sales value of an apartment there is a slight disparity which is not uncommon in any other suburb, in this instance it is just that there are more apartment buildings than freehold homes.
The suburb has easy access to all the major commercial and industrial precincts in Denver, Herriotdale, Benrose and Drosty Park and the commercial precincts in City and Suburban, Marshall Town and The Fashion District.
Schools providing education are Jeppe High School for Boys, Jeppe High School for Girls, Jules High School and Denver Secondary School.
Maboneng was an example of what can be achieved with devalued property and this is being achieved, all be it by other means, to Jeppestown South.
There are a variety of malls that cater for retail and entertainment close to the suburb like Jozi Mall, Killarney Mall, Park Central Shopping Mall and Jeppe Post Office Mall.
