Earlier this month construction officially began on Protea’s latest Fire and Ice hotel in Summit Place opposite Menlyn Mall in Pretoria.
With more than 120 estates throughout Southern Africa and other African countries including Zambia, Namibia and Kenya, the Protea Hotel group is the continent’s largest and most successful hotel group. Each Protea Hotel has a distinctive and unique character with themes that range from city chic to charming country and the new Fire and Ice is no different. As befits a hotel that will be in close proximity to Africa’s first ‘green’ city –Menlyn Maine – the Fire and Ice construction will be focused on environmentally friendly and sustainable practices.
Summit Place, which houses new commercial developments, provides the ideal location for the new Fire and Ice as it is directly opposite the ever-popular Menlyn Park shopping centre and fits in perfectly with the Fire and Ice brand image.
According to Protea’s spokesperson, the location is the epitome of what Fire and Ice is about – an edgy, vibrant and trendy ambiance aimed at young professionals and travellers who want to be at the centre of a bustling city hub.
The goal of the hotel’s design is to create a unique and exciting space, and to that end all entertainment areas – which include a restaurant, bar conference centre and swimming pool – will all be housed on oone level of the hotel, in order to enhance the vitality of the hotel’s design experience. The pool deck will be the hub of the entertainment area with fireplaces and secluded seating areas for socializing. Further, the Fire and Ice hotel will accommodate 178 rooms, 10 suites and 40 inter-leading rooms as well as 220 underground parking bays.
The expected opening date is within the first three months of 2014.
