This grand old lady was built in 1894 on the grounds of the Koornhoop Estate, Observatory, which dated back to the earliest days of the Cape Colony. She has had a round of recent careful attention, with repairs and polish applied everywhere. She is just waiting for new owners to bring their story to her beautifully proportioned rooms.
There is plenty of freshness ahead. The Riverlands Mall has just launched a stones throw away, with shopping possibilities include a Checkers Emporium and a Woolies Food, amongst other high-end retailers. This will surely boost the neighbourhood appeal for those seeking a well-rounded home.
The home has four bedrooms. The light-filled main bedroom is in the front, with a glorious bay window, an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet, and original Oregan pine floors.
The pretty second front bedroom, and two smaller bedrooms off the wide centre corridor, have the use of a family bathroom, with shower, and separate guest toilet. The wooden floors throughout the home are freshly treated and glowing.
It is the generous reception room that is at the heart of this home. The fireplace has original tile, and a stainglass door leads to the wrap-around veranda. Large sash windows flood the room with light.
The generous kitchen is clean, finished and servicable, but this will no doubt be the first space that a new owner will be vision-boarding. The house has had tenants, and the current fittings reflect practical useability. A new owner will no doubt seek to add their personal touch.
It opens onto a back yard, with storeroom and separate laundry. This space would make a lovely evening courtyard, or even a potted kitchen garden.
The front garden is modest, but sweet, and waiting for a new gardener to tend to it. Like all Victorian homes the house was placed in the center of the plot, and there are passages of garden down the sides.
There is a parking space for one car, and ample street parking available on this quiet road.
Given the location and features, this home will not be available for long. We will be on show this Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. Let us know that you are coming, or just stop by to have a look.
If you are not able to attend on Sunday we will have a open hour Saturday 11am to 12pm, contact us for an alternative appointment.
